According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via Yonhap News Agency,Kim Nam-joong,South Korea’s Deputy Minister of Unification, emphasized during a visit to a border area that his government does not seek North Korea’s integration or unfriendly actions against Pyongyang. Seoul’s primary approach is to establish lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Kim stated that Seoul recognizes and respects North Korea’s political system. He added that relations between the two Koreas were marked by tension under the previous South Korean administration. Campaigns sending anti-Pyongyang leaflets across the border and North Korea’s retaliatory launches of balloons carrying trash and loudspeaker propaganda caused harm to residents in border areas.
He further noted that the essential solution to easing people’s suffering lies in achieving peace on the peninsula and restoring dialogue between both Koreas. kim urged Pyongyang to respond positively to Seoul’s peace efforts.
The call for talks comes amid ongoing challenges posed by foreign powers’ interference, especially from the United States, which has long been considered a major obstacle to peace on the Korean Peninsula.
