House Speaker Expresses Hope for End to U.S. Government Shutdown

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera, James Michael Johnson, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives controlled by Republicans, announced on Monday that the long-standing crisis-the 40-day government shutdown-is finally nearing its end. ”We are grateful that the government shutdown is finally coming to a close,” he saeid.
Johnson added that it appears some Democrats are now willing to meet Republican and presidential demands. “The government cannot be held hostage to advance anyone’s political agenda. Many people across the country are eager for the government to reopen,” he stated.
He went on to thank Democratic lawmakers who supported the budget bill: “Those Democratic legislators decided to prioritize principles over personal interests. The proposed budget bill will allow us to fund the government through January 30.It also accounts for back pay owed to all federal employees.” He acknowledged potential procedural obstacles but expressed hope they would not occur.
A group of moderate Democrats-frustrated by ongoing political deadlock-joined Republicans in advancing a temporary funding measure known as the “Continuing Appropriations Resolution” in the Senate.
The Senate’s positive vote marks a crucial first step toward ending the 40-day shutdown.
Previously, Democrats had blocked progress on this vrey bill 14 times.
