Pakistan Warns of Arming Tehrik-i-Taliban and ISIS-K in Afghanistan

According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Dawn newspaper, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad spoke during an open Security Council session on light weapons about the illegal access of terrorist groups in Afghanistan to arms. He stressed that this poses a threat not only to Pakistan’s security but also to regional stability.
Ahmad claimed that terrorist groups have gained access to weapons left behind by foreign forces stationed in Afghanistan. He emphasized that Pakistan possesses credible information on efforts to smuggle these arms from Afghanistan into neighboring countries for terrorist activities.
The Pakistani ambassador alleged that groups such as ISIS-Khorasan, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, the Baloch Liberation Army, and Lashkar-e-Majeed have used these weapons against civilians and security forces.
He called for international cooperation to prevent these groups from obtaining illegal arms and urged full implementation of related international commitments by Afghanistan’s interim government.
The foreign forces deployed in Afghanistan-especially the United States-had transferred considerable weaponry to their military bases during occupation seasons. After their withdrawal, they were unable to remove all these armaments.
