Guterres: Israel Must Stop Flights Over Lebanon

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al jazeera, UN Secretary-General António Guterres issued a statement today, Wednesday, urging all parties to protect civilians and create conditions for dialog leading to a permanent ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. He did not explicitly condemn continuing Israeli aggressions against Beirut.
Guterres added that Israeli forces’ presence north of the Blue Line and their attacks on Lebanon violate Lebanese sovereignty and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He reiterated his call for Israel’s withdrawal from areas north of the Blue Line and an immediate stop to flights over Lebanese territory.
The Secretary-General further stated that UNIFIL supports the Lebanese army’s efforts to deploy south of the Litani River. He described Israeli gunfire near UNIFIL positions or attacks on peacekeepers as fully unacceptable.
