The resolution calls on the Israeli regime to cease exploitation and plundering of these resources, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Palestine Information Center.
The resolution was introduced by the Group of 77 plus China and was approved by an overwhelming majority of 152 votes in favor, including all European Union member states and Canada.Only eight countries opposed it: the United States,Nauru,Micronesia,Papua New Guinea,Palau,Paraguay,Argentina, and israel. Twelve countries abstained.
The resolution stresses full compliance with the geneva Convention on protecting civilians during war and with the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights concerning Palestinian occupied territories. It also references an advisory opinion from July 19, 2024, by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which affirms the illegality of Israeli policies and continued presence in these areas including East Jerusalem.
Additionally,it recalls that in 2004,the ICJ declared israel’s construction of its separation wall within occupied Palestinian territory illegal. The court condemned it as discriminatory and a violation of international law.
