Intense Clash Between Two Generals’ Forces in West Kordofan, Northern Sudan

A Sudanese military source reported intense clashes ‌between the army, led by General ‍Abdel Fattah ‍al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces under Mohamed Hamdan ⁣Dagalo, known as Hemeti, in western Kordofan.

According‌ to⁤ the English section ⁢of webangah News‌ Agency, citing⁢ Mehr News Agency, a Sudanese ⁣military official told Al Jazeera that fighting is ⁤ongoing inside Babnoseh city in western Kordofan ⁢between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Meanwhile, Sudanese medical⁢ sources confirmed 32 cases of sexual assault in one ⁤week involving girls from El ⁢Fasher who ⁢had reached Tawila city.

EuroNews ‌reported that Sudanese ⁤army units aligned with the government recaptured two areas ​in North ‍Kordofan ⁤state from forces loyal to Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (known as Hemeti).​ Meanwhile,⁣ these forces continue burning and ‌burying corpses in El Fasher, Darfur, ‍attempting to conceal⁢ evidence of mass killings.

Recent videos circulating online show‌ soldiers loyal to Abdel ​Fattah al-Burhan celebrating their victory securing Qazqil ‌and⁣ Umm Dam Haj Ahmed in North Kordofan with heavy weapons and rocket​ grenade launchers. The state is expected to witness ‌intense clashes over⁤ the ⁣coming⁣ weeks.

Qazqil fell to Rapid ‍Support Forces at the end of October. ​It lies south of El Obeid-the strategic⁣ capital of this central Sudan state. ‌The Rapid Support Forces are trying to wrest​ control of this town back from Sudan’s army.

The conflict between these rival⁣ generals-who command the⁣ national army and a paramilitary group-began⁢ in april 2023.In recent weeks⁣ it⁤ has‌ shifted ​eastward⁣ as Rapid Support consolidates power over parts of⁣ western Sudan amid an escalating civil war now entering its third⁢ year.

The influx⁢ of weapons has intensified‍ fighting that United ‌Nations officials‍ describe as triggering the world’s largest displacement‌ crisis. More than 12 million ‍people have been forced from their homes while tens of thousands have been killed or wounded. The UN has also confirmed widespread hunger ​across several regions ‍within the country.
