Israeli Merkava Tank Fires on UNIFIL Forces

According too the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Nashra, UNIFIL reported that an Israeli Merkava tank fired toward its forces near a location established by Israel inside Lebanese territory earlier today.
The UNIFIL statement said the incident forced peacekeepers to take cover in a secure position. After the Israeli tank withdrew, the troops were able to leave the area safely.
UNIFIL confirmed that no injuries were reported among its personnel.
The agency further emphasized that firing on UN peacekeepers constitutes a “serious violation” of Security Council Resolution 1701 and called on the Israeli military to halt any attacks against its forces.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) comprises peacekeepers deployed under Security Council Resolutions 425 and 426, adopted in March 1978. Their mission is to confirm Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon, restore peace and stability in the area, and assist the Lebanese government in extending its authority throughout southern Lebanon.
