Chilean Election Advances to Second Round

None of the left-wing or right-wing candidates in Chile secured enough votes⁢ to win in the first round, leading to a runoff election.

According to the English section of⁣ webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Chile’s presidential election will proceed to a second round between leftist politician‍ and⁢ former labor minister Janet Chara and far-right leader José Antonio Kast.

With over 80 percent of votes⁢ counted, Chara leads with about 27 percent, ⁤while Kast follows closely with nearly 24 percent.

Even though⁣ Chara is ahead, she faces a tough challenge ⁤as most right-wing candidates have ⁣lined up behind Kast. The sharp rise in crime has become the central issue in this election.

chara has pledged to improve living conditions and⁤ security through economic‍ reforms and strengthening law enforcement. In contrast, Kast emphasizes strict measures against migrants.

The controversial Chilean economist Franco Prisi, who⁤ surprisingly won 19 percent of ‍the vote, has yet to endorse either frontrunner. Analysts say Kast’s chances are stronger heading into the‍ December 14‌ runoff due to consolidated‍ right-wing support. This election could shape Chile’s political future and influence⁢ the balance of power between left- and right-wing forces in the region.
