South Korea Calls to Resume Military Talks with North Korea

According to webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency and the joongang Ilbo newspaper, Kim Hong-chul, director General of Defense Policy at South Korea’s Ministry of Defense, revealed that North korean forces have repeatedly crossed the border line into southern territory in recent days. These incursions occurred amid road construction, fence installation, and mine placement by North Korean troops.
Kim stated that South Korean forces issued necessary warnings and fired warning shots as per protocol. Following these actions, North Korean troops withdrew back to their territory.
Seoul officials warn that these violations of South Korea’s territorial sovereignty increase the risk of military conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
No military-level talks have taken place between commanders from both nations for over seven years; the last meeting at the general level was held in October 2018.
