South Korea Calls to Resume Military Talks with North Korea

A South Korean defence official has called for the resumption of military talks with North Korea.

According to⁤ webangah News Agency, ‌citing Mehr News agency and the joongang Ilbo newspaper,⁢ Kim Hong-chul, director General of Defense Policy at⁣ South Korea’s ⁤Ministry of Defense, revealed that North korean forces have repeatedly crossed the border line ‍into southern territory in recent⁤ days. These incursions ‌occurred ‌amid road construction, fence installation, and mine placement by North Korean troops.

Kim stated that South Korean⁤ forces ‍issued ⁤necessary warnings ⁣and fired warning ⁢shots as per protocol. Following these ⁤actions, North Korean troops withdrew back to their ‍territory.

Seoul ⁢officials warn that these violations of‌ South Korea’s‌ territorial sovereignty⁤ increase the risk ‌of military conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

No military-level talks have taken⁤ place⁣ between commanders from both⁤ nations for over seven years;⁢ the last meeting at ‍the general⁢ level was held⁣ in October ‍2018.
