China and Japan Prime Ministers Will Not Meet on G20 Sidelines

Tensions‌ between ‍Beijing and Tokyo continue​ as‌ China’s Foreign Ministry announced that the​ prime ministers of the‌ two countries will not ‍meet on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty summit.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News ‌agency and Reuters, China’s Foreign ‍Ministry stated that ⁤Premier Li Qiang⁤ has no plans ‌to meet with Japanese Prime‍ Minister sanae Takaichi during the G20 summit in South Africa.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s ⁤Foreign Ministry, said at​ a weekly press briefing:⁢ “The Japanese​ prime minister’s remarks on ​Taiwan have severely damaged⁣ the political foundation of China-Japan ‌relations. Japan must retract these incorrect statements.”

Earlier this month, Takaichi told Japan’s parliament that if China​ attacks​ Taiwan,⁣ Japan might respond militarily. These⁤ comments have raised concerns about escalating regional tensions.

The‍ G20 summit is scheduled‌ for November 22⁢ and 23 ⁣in South Africa.
