Iraq Parliament Dissolved; Caretaker Government Assumes Duties

The federal Court of Iraq announced that with the end of⁢ the current parliamentary term, the existing government will ⁤serve as a caretaker ⁢governance until‍ a⁤ new government ‌is formed.

The Iraqi Federal Court declared on Monday that the fifth session ⁤of Iraq’s parliament has ended. The government will continue ‍to operate as a caretaker administration ⁣until the establishment ‌of a new‌ cabinet, according ⁤to webangah News Agency, citing Iraqi news agency WAFA and ​Mehr News⁣ Agency.

The court’s statement added ‍that the President⁣ of Iraq‌ will also‌ remain ​in office until after the new parliamentary elections are completed.

The ruling was issued during a session ⁢chaired⁣ by Munther Ibrahim Hussein, president ​of the Federal ⁤Supreme Court, along⁣ with other court members.

This session was convened at the request ​of Iraqi President Abdul⁣ Latif Rashid for an ​interpretation of Article 56 of ​iraq’s Constitution.

According to ⁤the Federal Court’s statement, each parliamentary term lasts four calendar years from its first session and concludes at the end of its fourth year.

Under Iraq’s ⁣Constitution, election day marks the official ​end of⁤ each parliamentary term. From this ‍date onward, both legislative and executive branches continue ​solely‍ in a caretaker ​capacity until newly elected officials assume office.
