Security Council to Vote on U.S. and Russia Draft Resolutions on Gaza

The English section of webangah news Agency, citing mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, reported that today,Monday, the UN Security Council will vote on a US draft resolution supporting former President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. The resolution notably includes deploying an international force to the enclave. Washington has warned that failure to pass this draft could lead to renewed conflict in Gaza.
The text of this resolution draft-revised several times during internal Security Council negotiations-endorses a plan that allowed a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 10 last year.
The vote is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. New York time (10:00 p.m. GMT; 1:30 a.m. Tuesday Tehran time).
The latest version of the US draft allows for establishing an “international stabilization force” that would cooperate with Israel, Egypt, and newly trained Palestinian police to secure border areas and disarm Gaza. this force would work toward permanently disarming armed factions outside official authority, protecting civilians, and establishing humanitarian corridors.
The resolution also proposes forming a “Peace Council,” a transitional governance body for Gaza theoretically led by Trump, with its mandate lasting until the end of 2027.
Unlike previous drafts, this resolution references the possible future establishment of a Palestinian state. It states that once the Palestinian Authority implements necessary reforms and begins rebuilding Gaza, “conditions may finally be created for Palestinians to determine thier own fate and form a Palestinian state.”
This clause faces strong opposition from israel. On Sunday during his cabinet meeting, Israeli prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated: “Our opposition to establishing a Palestinian state anywhere remains unchanged.”
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), some diplomats believe despite criticism from Russia and hesitation among other member states, the American draft is likely to pass.
Russia’s Draft resolution on Gaza
Russia-a permanent Security Council member with veto power-has circulated its own draft resolution arguing that the US text insufficiently supports establishing a Palestinian state. this Russian proposal is set to be voted on early Tuesday morning at the council session. It calls for reaffirming “the firm commitment” toward pursuing a two-state solution but does not currently endorse creating a Peace Council or deploying an international force in Gaza. Instead, it requests UN Secretary-General António Guterres present “options” regarding these issues.
