Pyongyang Warns Seoul: Nuclear Submarine Equals Atomic Bomb
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Al Jazeera reported that North Korea’s official news agency issued a statement claiming South Korea’s acquisition of a nuclear-powered submarine will directly push the country toward possessing nuclear weapons.
This response from North Korea comes days after an official from South Korea’s presidential office announced on November 7 that the country aims to obtain enriched uranium from the United States for use as fuel in its nuclear submarine and plans to build this submarine domestically.
This statement follows South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s remarks during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Seoul, where he said his country seeks to develop its own submarine and requested assistance from the U.S. president in securing fuel for it.
