Governor Julani: Military Operations in As-Suwayda Are Not Planned

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Syria’s official news agency SANA via Mehr News Agency, Mustafa al-Bakkour, governor of al-Suwayda, announced that security forces of the Syrian Transitional Government are monitoring the ceasefire in al-Suwayda province and have no plans to carry out any military operations in the area.
Al-Bakkour also attributed recent escalations to local Druze defense forces, which he said are influenced by Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri,a prominent Druze cleric. Al-Hajri has advocated for closer ties with the Israeli regime.
Over the past three days, clashes between Druze forces and Arab tribes have continued in southern and western areas of al-Suwayda city. The druze have shelled positions held by Julani’s forces along the contact line near Al-Majlah.
