Kallas: EU’s Ability to Pressure China on Ukraine Is Limited

According to the English section ‌of webangah ‌News ⁣Agency,citing Bloomberg via Mehr News Agency,Kaja Kallas,speaking at a ⁤press conference in New York,highlighted the extensive⁣ economic ties between China⁢ and​ European‍ countries. She said‍ Beijing’s response to sanctions could ⁣harm the economies of EU ‌member ​states.

She added ⁤that China acts very shrewdly and is increasing ⁢it’s geopolitical influence.

Earlier, Geng Shuang, spokesperson for ⁤China’s Ministry of ‍Foreign Affairs,‌ stated that Beijing seeks an ​end to the Ukraine crisis and will⁣ play ⁢a constructive role in advancing its political⁣ resolution. ‍He emphasized​ that China maintains a consistent position based on fairness and neutrality regarding Ukraine.

The EU and the United States ⁤have called for reducing China’s economic⁣ relations ⁣with Russia. They argue that China’s purchase of Russian energy undermines the impact⁤ of anti-Russian ‍sanctions. ‍Ukraine has ⁣accused China of ⁤collaborating with Russia ⁣on military supplies.

The U.S. Congress is currently⁤ passing legislation targeting Russia’s trade partners, including China, with new sanctions expected.
