United Nations Calls for Immediate Aid to Gaza Residents

according to the English section of webangah News agency, citing Al Jazeera, Tom Fletcher, the UN Deputy Secretary-general for humanitarian Affairs and Emergency relief Coordinator, wrote on social media platform X: “Palestinians in Gaza are suffering from cold and damp after recent heavy rains. Their despair is deepening as floods destroy what little possessions thay have left.”
Fletcher said that while the United Nations and its partners are mobilized to provide assistance, the scale of needs far exceeds current efforts. He called on Israel to immediately lift all remaining restrictions so more aid can reach Gaza.
meanwhile, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated at a press conference at UN headquarters yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) that humanitarian workers from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian affairs (OCHA) continue distributing tents, plastic sheeting, and other essential relief items to families affected by the rains.
Haq added that within this framework, the Special Coordinator’s office for the Middle East peace process has allocated $18 million from a humanitarian fund dedicated to Palestine to support critical operations throughout Gaza.
The UN official emphasized that heavy rainfall and winter conditions are compounding already challenging living situations in Gaza. He noted these funds will help advance projects addressing vital needs such as food supply, water access, sanitation services, and shelter throughout the strip.
