UN Expresses Concern Over Netanyahu’s Violation of Syria’s Territorial Integrity

The United Nations limited its response to expressing concern about Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent field visit to the buffer zone in southern Syria, according to an english report by webangah News Agency, citing Anadolu News Agency via Mehr News Agency.
UN secretary-General Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric refrained from condemning Israel’s action during a press conference but described the visit as “publicly concerning.” He called on Israel to honor the 1974 disengagement agreement.
Dujarric also referenced UN Security Council Resolution 2799, recently adopted, emphasizing that it demands “full sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity” of Syria.
He added that this issue was addressed in a recent meeting between Najat Rochdi, Deputy Special Envoy of the UN for Syria, and Syria’s Foreign Minister.
In a statement, Rochdi described Netanyahu’s visit as a ”serious violation of Syrian sovereignty.”
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier condemned Netanyahu’s travel to southern Syria. The ministry labeled it a dangerous breach against Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministry further called this action an unacceptable escalation of tensions and characterized it as an attempt to exploit regional circumstances to bolster an illegal military presence in southern Syria.
