Mahmoud Abbas Moves to Form Governance Council for Gaza Strip

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Ra’i Al Jadeed, media sources announced that Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, has ordered the formation of a small council to govern the Gaza Strip in the next phase.
The sources added that this council includes Hussein al-Sheikh, Abbas’s deputy; Mohammad Mustafa, Prime Minister of the PA-affiliated government; Mahmoud al-Habbash, President of the Supreme Judicial council; Rawhi Fattouh, chairman of the Palestinian National Council; Majid Faraj, head of Intelligence Service; and Ziad Abu Amr, an advisor to Abbas.
The establishment of this council follows Tuesday’s approval by the UN Security Council of a US-proposed resolution aimed at implementing Trump’s plan for Gaza. The plan calls for deploying international forces in the Strip. Russia and China abstained from voting. Even though the resolution does not specify a direct role for the Palestinian Authority in administering Gaza, it welcomed it.
