Former Brazilian President Arrested

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Jair Bolsonaro’s lawyer announced that the former Brazilian president was arrested by the country’s federal police on Saturday.
Bolsonaro’s legal team had requested on Friday that he serve his 27-year prison sentence under house arrest, citing serious health issues as justification.
The 70-year-old Bolsonaro was convicted in september for leading a failed coup attempt against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva following his defeat in the 2022 election. His appeal was denied last week.
bolsonaro led a group planning to assassinate Lula, his vice president, and a judge of Brazil’s Supreme Court. Three military officers and one police officer were also sentenced to prison for thier involvement in the conspiracy.
The trial sparked anger from U.S. President Donald Trump, who responded by imposing a 40% tariff on certain Brazilian goods. However, diplomatic efforts have since eased tensions, and on Thursday the U.S. announced it would lift additional tariffs on Brazilian meat and coffee exports.
