Al-Daawa Party Nominates Maliki for Iraq Prime Minister Post

The webangah News Agency English service reports, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that in a notable advancement following Iraq’s election results and government formation process, the Dawa Party announced today that its Secretary-General, Nuri al-Maliki, will be their candidate for prime minister.
The party’s statement highlighted al-Maliki’s experiance and capability to govern the country. It added that the current sensitive phase requires a thriving government with political balance.
Meanwhile, Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the Coordination Framework coalition of Iraqi Shiite parties has assigned Nuri al-maliki to negotiate with other coalitions.
In line with these developments, al-Maliki traveled to Erbil and met with Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Nuri al-Maliki, head of the state of Law Coalition, held talks with Barzani on Saturday in Erbil.
Both leaders congratulated each other on conducting accomplished parliamentary elections. They also discussed the political situation and ongoing dialog among national forces.
Al-Maliki emphasized the importance of continued joint efforts to accelerate government formation while strengthening stability and preserving democratic progress.
