US Treasury Secretary Emphasizes Failure of European Sanctions Against Russia
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency, U.S. Treasury secretary Scott Besant said Sunday in an interview with NBC News regarding ongoing peace talks between Russia and Ukraine and a Washington-backed 28-point peace agreement: “Ultimately, this decision will rest with the Ukrainians.”
The Treasury Secretary added, “Europeans tell me they are implementing their nineteenth sanctions package. From my personal perspective, if you do something 19 times, you have failed.”
The European Union had previously approved its nineteenth sanctions package against Russia over the war in Ukraine, which includes a ban on importing natural gas from Russia.
This latest sanctions package will also introduce a new mechanism to restrict the movement of Russian diplomats within the EU.
