Diplomatic Women’s Charity Bazaar: A Cultural Bridge Between Iran and Malaysia

The Diplomatic Women’s Association Charity Bazaar opened its doors to visitors last Tuesday, showcasing a vibrant collection of handicrafts. Women from various countries collaborated with Iranian artists, creating an atmosphere rich in creativity and cultural exchange.
Alongside conventional Iranian crafts, visitors encountered diverse international works, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and participation throughout the bazaar. Manny embassies presented cultural products from their home countries, transforming the event into a shared space for creativity, generosity, and mutual cultural appreciation. Beyond exhibiting art, all proceeds from the event are dedicated to charitable causes such as supporting underprivileged families, hospitals, and other eligible organizations and individuals.
Among attendees was Khairi Omar, Malaysia’s ambassador to Tehran. He visited several booths and shared his thoughts with Mehr News Agency in this interview:
How many times have you attended this exhibition over the past years? What is your impression of this year’s event?
If I remember correctly, this is my second time participating. I believe this event offers a valuable possibility not only for Tehran’s diplomatic community but also for anyone who has time to attend. It is an excellent occasion to explore, discover, and enjoy products from different countries around the world.
Was there any particular country booth that caught your attention more than others?
I think it would be unfair to single out one country as “the best.” Every participant has done an outstanding job showcasing what their country has to offer.
Events like this bring the global community closer together-especially crucial at times when many conflicts affect the world. During such moments we need gatherings like these that unite people so we can experience each other’s cultures and expertise firsthand.
How do you evaluate current cultural cooperation between Iran and Malaysia?
I believe we have been performing very well in terms of cultural collaboration. In line with that goal, the Malaysian embassy plans several events before year-end.In fact, just this weekend we will hold a programme featuring an orchestra playing Malaysian songs along with a shadow puppet show-the Malaysian version called “Wayang Kulit.” We hope our Iranian friends will come enjoy these performances as well. Through these kinds of events we deepen mutual understanding between our peoples; seeing such activities take place in Tehran is truly encouraging.
