Al-Akhbar Claims Trump Appointed Bin Salman Responsible for Negotiations with Iran

According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr news Agency, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, quoting Western sources, reported that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received authorization from U.S. President donald Trump to oversee mediation talks between Iran and the United States. The goal is to secure an agreement and resolve outstanding issues in their negotiations.
The sources said that bin Salman told President Trump such an agreement is essential for ensuring stability across the Middle East. The Crown Prince also expressed concern that Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet in israel might sabotage these efforts and escalate tensions against Iran.
According to the report, following bin Salman’s visit to the White House, the Saudi side reached out to Iranian officials and agreed on holding an urgent high-level meeting within 24 hours in Paris between Saudi and Iranian representatives.
The sources revealed that during his latest meeting with Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in Riyadh, bin Salman asked about Tehran’s stance on Riyadh’s initiative toward Washington regarding a potential deal with Iran. Larijani responded positively but emphasized that Tehran-especially after Israel and America’s June offensive against it-is unwilling to make concessions.
The report adds that Saudi Arabia also discussed with American officials the importance of reaching an understanding with Iran, stressing that such a deal could contribute to reconciliation efforts in Yemen. However, this dialog has faced opposition from U.S. factions supporting Israel.
The sources noted this marks the first time Saudi Arabia openly expressed its concerns before U.S. officials about possible Israeli provocations aimed at undermining peace opportunities in the region. They stressed that stability in the Middle East cannot be durable without understanding Tehran’s position.
