Gergash: UAE’s Interest Lies in Sudan’s Stability and Curbing the Muslim Brotherhood

Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. Speaking to webangah News Agency’s English section, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Khaleej Online, Gargash called the move strategic, valiant, and historic.
He added that this decision targets one of the core sources of extremism. Classifying the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group will restrict its ability to finance and organize activities.
Recently, President Trump signed an executive order initiating the process of labeling certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood-particularly those in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan-as foreign terrorist organizations. This step paves the way for sanctions against these targeted factions.
Gargash emphasized that his country’s stance on Sudan’s crisis is based on unconditional humanitarian ceasefire support and moving towards transferring power to civilian governance.
He also rejected accusations that Abu Dhabi provides military or political backing to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces. He affirmed that UAE interests lie in preserving Sudan’s unity and stability while limiting influence from groups like the Muslim Brotherhood.
