Aoun Takes Position on Signing Lebanon-Cyprus Maritime Border Agreement

During Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to Lebanon, the two countries signed a maritime border delineation agreement, according to webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said at a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart after signing the accord, “The delimitation of maritime borders with Cyprus will allow us to explore shared resources.”
He added that Lebanon is focused on strengthening strategic agreements with the European Union.
Aoun also highlighted Lebanon and Cyprus’s plans to implement joint projects in defense, security, and energy sectors. “We explicitly demand completing maritime memoranda of understanding and abandoning the language of violence and hegemonic policies,” he stated.
The lebanese president emphasized a robust campaign against illegal migration across the Mediterranean Sea during the briefing.
He affirmed, “Lebanon’s cooperation with Cyprus is not directed against anyone and does not prevent collaboration with any other country.”
The Cypriot president remarked that Cyprus and Lebanon will continue fostering mutual trust, respect, and regional stability.
He described the maritime border agreement between Lebanon and Cyprus as a strategic achievement and a strong political message.
