NATO Secretary General: Ukraine War Could End This Year

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte told the spanish newspaper El País that the war in Ukraine could end by the end of 2025. however, he emphasized that ending the conflict or any peace agreement would not eliminate Russia’s threat to Europe.
When asked if a peace deal could remove Russia from europe’s security threat list, Rutte stressed that Russia would remain a long-term threat.
The NATO chief said he will make every effort to achieve peace in Ukraine. He noted that while some aspects of the proposed plan are positive, others require revision.
Ukraine and the European Union are consulting with the United States to modify certain elements of former President Trump’s proposed peace plan, but significant changes appear unlikely.
In recent remarks, the U.S. president stated that Washington’s initial 28-point peace proposal for Ukraine has now been reduced to 22 points.
Earlier reports from The Guardian indicated that Ukraine successfully amended parts of america’s plan by removing unacceptable demands and reducing it from 28 clauses to 19.
Last week, Washington introduced a 28-point peace initiative which drew criticism from some of Kyiv’s European partners. On November 14, consultations on this U.S. peace plan were held between American and Ukrainian officials in Geneva.
According to Ukrainian media reports, both delegations have agreed on most points of the proposal. Remaining contentious issues are expected to be discussed during a meeting between U.S.President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday that Russia considers Ukraine’s initial peace proposal ”reasonable” and views it as “a suitable basis for negotiations.”
