The Supreme Court issued its judgment following an appellate court decision in February, which sentenced him to six months in prison under electronic monitoring and an additional six months of suspended imprisonment.
Reuters also reported that France’s highest court upheld Sarkozy’s sentence related to unlawful funding of his election campaign, adding to his recent legal troubles after spending nearly a month in custody on a separate case.

Sarkozy was jailed for about 20 days at La Santé prison. In recent weeks, he appeared via video conference at court hearings where he denied all charges and described his detention conditions as “harsh and exhausting.”
The court ordered his release under judicial supervision but prohibited any contact between Sarkozy and Gérald Darmanin,France’s Minister of Justice.
Sarkozy faced accusations that during the 2007 presidential campaign he received illegal financial support from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.Even though acquitted last September on corruption charges, he was sentenced to five years in prison for “criminal institution.”
Meanwhile, Sarkozy’s lawyers have filed an appeal with the Supreme Court seeking annulment of the prison sentence.
