Trump Backs Right-Wing Candidates Ahead of Honduras Election Sunday

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing the Associated Press via Mehr News Agency, U.S.President Donald Trump announced his intention to pardon Juan Orlando Hernández, Honduras’ former president and a right-wing politician convicted in 2024 of drug trafficking and weapons charges with a 45-year prison sentence.
Hernández was sentenced in March 2024 for smuggling cocaine into the united States and is currently serving his sentence at the federal Hazelton prison in Virginia.
Trump also expressed support for Nasry Asfura, a right-wing candidate in Honduras, stating that if Asfura wins, the United States will back his government.
The presidential election in Honduras will be held this Sunday. Other candidates include Rixi Moncada and Salvador Nasralla.
Trump warned that if Asfura loses, Honduras could follow a path similar to Caracas under Nicolás Maduro’s influence.
The next general elections in Honduras are scheduled for November 30, 2025. Voters will choose the president, members of the National Congress, and 20 representatives for the Central American Parliament.
