Death and Missing Toll from Heavy Rains in Indonesia Rises to 844

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency reported that ⁢the death toll from severe rains in the country has risen to 442, with 402 people⁣ still⁢ missing.

The English section of webangah News Agency, citing France 24 via Mehr News Agency, reported that this week’s heavy monsoon rains have affected parts ⁤of Indonesia, ⁣Thailand, and Malaysia. Thousands have been left homeless or without essential supplies.

According to the report, at ‌least ⁤two areas on the island of Sumatra-hit hardest by the flooding-remained inaccessible​ as​ of⁣ Sunday. Indonesian authorities dispatched two warships from Jakarta to ‌deliver aid to residents in those regions.

Suharyanto, head of Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency, stated that the Tapanuli⁣ region and Sibolga city require full attention due to their‍ remote locations.

He added ⁤that the ships are ​expected to arrive in Sibolga on Monday.

The agency released figures Sunday confirming that fatalities in Indonesia‌ have ⁣climbed to 442, while 402 individuals remain missing.

At least 646 people have also sustained injuries, according to official ⁣data from the disaster management authority.
