NBC: White House Shooting Suspect Was Former CIA Spy

According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Mayadeen, NBC disclosed that Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan accused of shooting near the White House-resulting in two members of the U.S. National Guard being wounded and killed-was part of a special unit composed of Afghan operatives affiliated with the CIA. This unit was tasked with tracking and assassinating Afghan leaders during highly hazardous operations.
The group was known as “Unit Zero” or National Assault Units. CIA officers praised their bravery, skills, and loyalty. Before withdrawing from Afghanistan after Kabul fell in 2021, the CIA evacuated these operatives because they were prime targets for the Taliban.
The report explained that upon arriving in the United States, members of this unit faced daily challenges and neglect. Thousands of Afghan soldiers lived in legal limbo without work permits, making it difficult to support their families financially.
CIA officials had previously intervened to urge Presidents Joe Biden’s and Donald Trump’s administrations-and Congress-to address these ongoing issues. They warned that failing to find solutions could push some militants into despair.
Last week, 29-year-old Lakanwal opened fire on two U.S. National Guard members near the White House. The attack resulted in the death of 20-year-old Sarah Bickstrom and left 24-year-old Andrew Wolf critically injured.
