Japanese Parliament Members Meet with Chinese Ambassador

A multi-party group of Japanese lawmakers advocating for closer ties with Beijing met with China’s Ambassador to Tokyo, Wu Jianghao, according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Kyodo.
The state-run Tokyo press reported that the meeting aimed to establish informal communication channels and reduce tensions between Tokyo and Beijing.
At the meeting, Yuko Obuchi, a representative of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, expressed willingness on behalf of the lawmakers to visit China as part of efforts to ease tensions and strengthen parliamentary relations.
The discussions also addressed recent remarks by Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi concerning Taiwan.
This comes amid Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi’s statement that Tokyo has not ruled out deploying intermediate-range missiles on Yonaguni Island-located 110 kilometers from Taiwan-a move that drew a sharp response from China.
Tensions have escalated in recent weeks following Prime Minister Takaichi’s comments about potential military action by China against Taiwan.
Takaichi warned that an attack on Taiwan would threaten japan’s existence and might prompt military intervention by Tokyo.
China has demanded that the prime Minister retract her statements and has urged its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan. This advisory has led to widespread cancellations of Chinese travelers’ trips to Japan, possibly inflicting significant economic losses on the country.
