Herzog: I Consider Israel’s Interests in Netanyahu’s Pardon Request

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and al-Mayadeen, Isaac Herzog, president of the Israeli regime, responded to prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request for a pardon by emphasizing that netanyahu’s actions have caused widespread concern. Herzog asserted that in making his decision he will consider “only the interests of Israel and Israelis.”
in a statement from his office, Herzog added that “violent rhetoric” will not sway him from his position. He stated the pardon request would be examined thoroughly and transparently.
The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported on Netanyahu’s pardon plea, noting that while Netanyahu ostensibly asks Herzog to grant clemency “based on public interest,” he effectively proposes a deal under which judicial reforms would be withdrawn in exchange for a pardon.
Netanyahu promised in his petition that granting him clemency would enable him to work toward uniting Zionists and addressing other issues such as the judiciary system and media matters.
The newspaper believes that by mentioning a return to tackling additional issues, Netanyahu is effectively suggesting abandoning judicial reforms.
