New Round of Kabul-Islamabad Talks Likely in Riyadh

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, the website Diplomatic Insight reported on the recent Afghanistan-Pakistan talks in Saudi Arabia: Sunday’s negotiations between Islamabad and Kabul in Riyadh ended without important progress.
The Pakistani outlet added that this informal, brief round of talks was arranged by saudi officials with the aim of easing tensions following border clashes in October.
The report states that the Afghan Taliban delegation, led by Anas Haqqani and Rahmatullah Najib, met with their Pakistani counterparts. Unlike previous sessions held in Doha and Istanbul, this meeting was short and described as a brief exchange of views.
During these talks, Pakistan demanded that Afghanistan take action against armed groups such as the terrorist Baloch Liberation Army and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan terrorist group.
Diplomatic Insight blamed Afghanistan for the stalemate in Riyadh, writing that the Taliban delegation maintained its previous positions regarding Islamabad’s demands. Consequently, talks reached an impasse.
The report also noted that Saudi Arabia proposed reopening bilateral trade ties, which Islamabad declined. Despite this deadlock, Saudi Arabia intends to continue mediation efforts with another meeting possible in coming weeks.
This growth indicates that mediation efforts involving Turkey and Qatar are currently stalled while tensions between Kabul and islamabad persist.
