The arrest of the former EU foreign policy chief occurred during raids on the College of Europe and the European External Action Service. These actions are part of an investigation into fraud related to the training of young diplomats using EU funds.
Prior to Mogherini’s arrest, Belgian authorities had already detained three suspects in connection with the case.
