UNGA Approves Resolutions on Palestine, Golan Heights

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the UN General Assembly has passed resolutions concerning Palestine and the Golan Heights.
A resolution regarding Palestine, introduced by Djibouti, Jordan, Mauritania, Qatar, Senegal, and Palestine, was approved with 151 votes in favor. Eleven members, including Israel and the United States, voted against the resolution, while another 11 abstained.
The resolution emphasizes the UN’s responsibility towards the issue of Palestine, calling for an end to the occupation of the occupied territories since 1967 and supporting the two-state solution.
The General Assembly also adopted a resolution put forth by Egypt.
This resolution demands that Israel withdraw from the Syrian Golan Heights and describes the occupation and annexation of the area as illegal.
The resolution passed with 123 votes in favor, 7 against (including Israel and the U.S.), and 41 abstentions.
According to the resolution’s text, the occupation and annexation of the Golan are in violation of Security Council Resolution 497 from 1981.
In response to the decision, the Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that the resolution calls for Israel’s complete withdrawal from the occupied Golan and that the increasing number of countries supporting it demonstrates broad support for Syria and emphasizes the Golan’s belonging to Syria.
