Gulf Cooperation Council Summit Convenes in Manama Amid Regional Challenges

The 46th summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) heads of state commenced in Bahrain, focusing on unifying monetary policies, developing joint projects, and strengthening intra-GCC trade. Discussions also include defense coordination and addressing regional threats.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the 46th Gulf Cooperation Council summit has begun in Manama, Bahrain, under the leadership of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Informed sources indicate that the summit will address the unification of monetary policies, the advancement of joint projects, and the enhancement of domestic trade among member states. The discussions will also encompass strengthening defense coordination, protecting maritime navigation, countering regional threats such as developments in the Red Sea, and combating terrorism.

The summit occurs amid rapid geopolitical shifts, economic challenges, and technological advancements, making it highly sensitive. Key focuses include reinforcing the economic programs of Gulf countries, developing digital initiatives, expanding defense and security cooperation, harmonizing economic and financial policies, and activating joint initiatives.

Earlier reports highlighted that the summit aims to unify the positions of Persian Gulf states, strengthen joint defense mechanisms, and redefine the council’s role in the region, balancing between the influence of the United States and China.

Bahraini international political advisor Ahmed Al-Khazai noted that the summit follows a year of significant historical events since the previous GCC summit in Kuwait. These events make the Manama summit a central point for reassessing positions and unifying perspectives. Al-Khazai emphasized the summit’s importance in the wake of crises and conflicts that have shaken the region, necessitating collective action to redefine priorities and strengthen internal unity.

Al-Khazai elaborated that the Manama summit is taking place against a backdrop of intertwined security and political challenges, including military actions, the cessation of conflict in Gaza, developments in Syria, and evolving international relations with the U.S. and China. These challenges contribute to a more complex regional environment.

He further stated that the Manama summit aims to contribute to solutions by coordinating positions and presenting joint initiatives to enhance stability. It underscores the GCC’s potential to be part of the solution, rather than merely being affected by crises, thereby solidifying the council’s role as a key player in establishing regional balances.

Al-Khazai added that the cessation of the conflict in Gaza represents a political and humanitarian achievement, demonstrating the ability of regional and international parties to exert pressure to de-escalate tensions and stabilize the situation.
