Pakistan and Afghanistan Agree to Maintain Ceasefire After Saudi Arabia Talks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the interim government of Afghanistan and Pakistan have engaged in new peace talks in Saudi Arabia and agreed to maintain a ceasefire. This is the latest attempt to reduce tensions between the neighbors in South Asia.
The ceasefire between the two South Asian armies was established in recent weeks following deadly border clashes in October and after negotiations hosted by Qatar and Turkey. However, the two sides have not yet reached a peace agreement.
Citing unnamed sources, Reuters reported that three Afghan officials and two Pakistani officials, one of whom is based in Istanbul, confirmed that the new round of negotiations took place in Saudi Arabia. They stated that both parties agreed to maintain the ceasefire.
A senior official from the interim Afghan government noted that the talks were initiated by Saudi Arabia, adding, “We are open to further meetings to see a positive outcome.”
