U.S. Urges Citizens to Immediately Depart Venezuela Amid Rising Risks
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. State Department issued a statement on Thursday renewing its “level-high” warning to U.S. citizens regarding travel to Venezuela and urging them to leave the country “immediately.”
The State Department noted that it withdrew all diplomatic staff from Caracas in 2019, rendering the provision of consular services—both emergency and routine—impossible for American citizens within Venezuela.
The statement specified that those choosing to remain in Venezuela face elevated risks, including “arbitrary arrest, torture during detention, terrorist threats, risk of kidnapping, as well as civil unrest.”
In related comments, President Donald Trump addressed the alleged drug cartels in Venezuela. He said an imminent ground assault on drug trafficking would soon begin.
President Trump added that working with Venezuela had moved beyond applying pressure, noting a brief contact with Maduro during which he informed him of certain actions.
