Analysis: Death of Abu Shabab Reveals Tel Aviv’s Gaza Miscalculations

A Zionist analyst suggests the death of Yasser Abu Shabab highlights the disconnect between Tel Aviv’s narratives and the reality in Gaza, questioning Israel’s ability to impose leaders.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, an Israeli analyst has examined the implications of the death of Abu Shabab for Tel Aviv. Jacky Khoury, an Arab affairs analyst at the Israeli army radio, told the Hebrew-language newspaper Haaretz that the announcement of Yasser Abu Shabab’s death is not just an internal security event in the Gaza Strip, but reveals the vast gap between Tel Aviv’s propaganda and the complex reality of Gaza.

Khoury added that Abu Shabab’s death showed that the person who was introduced in Israeli security, military, and media institutions as a “Hamas replacement” or “ruler of Gaza after the war” could not even survive within his small sphere of activity.

He emphasized that Abu Shabab’s death did not surprise anyone in Gaza, as many Gazans considered him a danger to themselves or a focus of harassment. The result of Abu Shabab’s death is also quite clear: no power is strong enough to protect Israel’s collaborators in Gaza.

He added that Abu Shabab was not even popular in his own tribe, al-Tarabin, and they immediately disowned him after his death. In their statement on the occasion of Abu Shabab’s death, the al-Tarabin wrote that he represented a “dark chapter” and that his death ended the tribe’s shame.

The statement also promised that they would not allow anyone from the tribe to join militants who serve the occupiers.

In conclusion, Khoury emphasized that Abu Shabab’s death had two important lessons. First, Israel cannot produce a dictator to rule Gaza. Abu Shabab was powerful in appearance, but in reality, he was a weak link that relied on weapons, chaos, and playing a double game between local forces and the Zionist regime. This event also showed that Gaza is not a place where someone can be imposed as ruler.
