German Chancellor Urges Continued Focus on Independent Palestinian State

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, currently on a visit to the Middle East, has addressed the critical situation in the West Bank, asserting that the region’s circumstances cannot be overlooked and that the prospect of establishing a Palestinian state must remain viable.
Merz stressed that the transition to the subsequent phase of the Gaza war cessation agreement should proceed successfully. He further stated that any actions by Israel to annex territory in the West Bank, whether formally, politically, or practically, should be prevented.
These statements follow remarks made by Sebastian Hille, the Deputy Spokesman for the German government, during a press conference in Berlin. Hille stated that settlement construction is inconsistent with international law and violates United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Hille reiterated Berlin’s consistent condemnation of violence by Zionist settlers against Palestinian civilians, adding, “We once again urge the Israeli cabinet to halt the settlement process.” He emphasized that Germany rejects any measures aimed at annexing the West Bank, considering them a significant impediment to achieving a negotiated two-state solution and implementing the peace plan.
Following his visit to Jordan, Merz is scheduled to undertake his first official visit to the occupied territories on Sunday.
