Goa Nightclub Fire Kills at Least 23, Investigation Launched

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a fire at a nightclub in Goa, India, resulted in the deaths of at least 23 people. The incident occurred in the southwestern state, a well-known tourist destination.
Indian officials confirmed that the blaze engulfed a nightclub in Arpora, a major tourist hub in Goa, on Saturday night. Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, stated on X that he had visited the site of the “massive fire” and has ordered a thorough investigation.
Sawant emphasized that those found responsible will face severe legal consequences, and any negligence will be dealt with decisively. Speaking to reporters at the scene, he noted that “three to four” tourists were among the victims. He added that three people died from burns, while 20 others succumbed to suffocation.
Initial investigations suggest the fire was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion in the kitchen, according to Alok Kumar, Goa’s police chief. Kumar reported that the fire broke out around midnight and was eventually brought under control.
The blaze was primarily contained within the kitchen area on the ground floor, where the majority of the bodies were discovered, indicating that the victims were likely club employees. Two bodies were also found on the staircase.
Goa, situated on the Arabian Sea coast, attracts millions of tourists annually. The former Portuguese colony is renowned for its sandy beaches, tropical climate, and vibrant nightlife, with the winter season being the peak tourist period in India’s smallest state.
