Yemen Trials Begin for Alleged CIA Spy Network

The trial of a large espionage network accused of collaborating with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has commenced in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, with 13 defendants facing charges of espionage and harming national security.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the trial of a large espionage network accused of collaborating with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) began in Sanaa, Yemen.

The first session of the trial involved 13 defendants appearing before the Yemeni Criminal Court to address charges related to espionage and harming national security. Judge Yahya al-Mansour presided over the session, attended by prosecution representatives and several lawyers.

During the session, the indictment was read, and the prosecution presented collected evidence. The defendants submitted their responses and requests for copies of the case documents. The court will continue reviewing the evidence in subsequent sessions.

The indictment details that the defendants were allegedly involved in managing organized espionage activities inside and outside Yemen from the late 1980s until 2024. They allegedly exploited civilian and humanitarian projects as cover for gathering sensitive military, security, political, economic, and social information impacting the country’s interests.

The indictment further accuses the network of recruiting individuals in various locations and providing proposals and reports to hostile foreign entities. The defendants also allegedly provided training in establishing intelligence cells and mechanisms for recruiting and directing agents.

The indictment includes direct accusations against the group for participating in activities undermining Yemen’s independence and territorial integrity and enhancing the capabilities of hostile foreign parties. This case is described as one of the most significant espionage cases brought before the Yemeni judiciary in recent years.
