Benin Coup: Military Junta Ousts President, Dissolves Government

Military forces in Benin have seized power, announcing the dissolution of the government and the removal of President Patrice Talon. The coup, declared on national television, is the latest in a series of military takeovers in West Africa.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, soldiers in Benin have announced the takeover of the government on national television.

Following a series of military coups in West Africa, the Associated Press reports that a group of Benin’s military personnel appeared on national television to formally announce the dissolution of the government and all state institutions, as well as the dismissal of the president.

The military group has named itself the “Military Committee for Reconstruction.”

Pascal Tigri, an army officer, is reportedly leading the coup, identifying himself as the head of the “Military Committee for Reconstruction.”

The whereabouts of Benin’s President Patrice Talon are currently unknown.
