Coup Attempt Foiled in Benin; Plotters Arrested

Benin’s government reports foiling a coup attempt by a small group of soldiers, resulting in multiple arrests. The country’s interior minister has assured citizens that order has been restored and the situation is under control.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, authorities in Benin have arrested individuals involved in a failed coup attempt. Citing Agence France-Presse, Al Jazeera reports that the plotters have been detained.

Agence France-Presse, referencing military and security sources within the African nation, stated that twelve military personnel have been arrested in Benin, including those who participated in the coup attempt.

Benin’s Minister of Interior, Alassane Seidou, announced on national television that order had been restored following the military’s attempt to seize power.

In a televised address, the Interior Minister explained that a small faction of soldiers initiated a coup attempt, but the army successfully intervened to stop them.

He further emphasized that the situation is under control and urged citizens to resume their normal lives.
