Gilan Governor Heads to Moscow Economic Summit via Azerbaijan

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hadi Hagh-Shenas, the Governor of Gilan Province, left on Sunday from the Astara land border crossing in northwestern Gilan, after being seen off by the Governor of Astara County, heading to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and then to Russia, to participate in an economic summit in Moscow.
The summit’s primary focus is to facilitate trade and transit exchanges between Iran and Russia, intending to promote regional cooperation and reinforce land and sea transportation corridors.
Speaking to ISNA via the Astara border crossing, Governor Hagh-Shenas elaborated on the objectives of his trip, stating that he would travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, and then to Russia to attend a vital economic summit in Moscow.
Hagh-Shenas added that the summit will host an Iranian economic delegation headed by the Deputy Economic Minister, along with the governors of Gilan and Mazandaran provinces, with the main goal of exchanging views to enhance facilities for trade between Iran and Russia, mainly through land and sea routes.
The Governor expressed his hope that the consultations at the summit, scheduled for Monday in Moscow, would lead to increased facilities in banking, trade, customs, and logistics. The ultimate objective is to facilitate the movement of ships and trains through the Astara and Incheh Borun borders to increase exchanges between Iranian ports and neighboring countries in the Caspian Sea.
ISNA reports that this trip demonstrates a special emphasis on the role of the northern provinces of Iran, particularly Gilan, in developing international transport corridors and achieving the country’s transit and economic goals. The Gilan Governor’s trip to neighboring countries of the Islamic Republic of Iran is considered an effective step toward operationalizing previous agreements and opening new horizons for the province’s economic growth and increased regional exchanges, with tangible results expected in the near future in the areas of trade and transit in Gilan Province.
