Benin President Claims Coup Attempt Thwarted with Army Support

Benin’s President Patrice Talon has announced that a coup attempt in the country was suppressed with the cooperation of the army, and the situation is now under complete control. He vowed that the act of treason would not go unpunished.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, President Patrice Talon of Benin stated that the recent coup attempt in the nation has been successfully suppressed thanks to the collaborative efforts of the army, adding that the situation is entirely under their control.

Talon emphasized that the act of treason committed within the country’s borders would not go unpunished.

Earlier reports indicated a potential military takeover in Benin. Initial reports suggested that soldiers had seized power, while another indicated a group of soldiers had appeared on national television to announce the dissolution of the government and all state institutions, as well as the removal of the president.

This military group reportedly identified itself as the “Military Committee for Reconstruction.”

The alleged leader of the coup, Pascal Tigri, an army officer, has reportedly identified himself as the head of the “Military Committee for Reconstruction.”

Prior reports citing military and security sources in Benin stated that a number of soldiers, including those involved in the coup attempt, had been arrested.
