Russian Trade Delegation Visits Iran to Boost Volga-Persian Gulf Transit

A Russian trade delegation from the Ulyanovsk region has visited Iran to discuss boosting economic ties and transit routes, particularly the Volga-Caspian-Persian Gulf corridor, with officials and businesses in Qazvin and Gilan provinces.

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kazan, Russia, continues its efforts to connect Iranian provinces with regions in the Volga and Ural areas. A trade delegation from the Ulyanovsk region of Russia, led by Ruslan Gainetdinov, advisor to the governor and head of the regional organization for entrepreneurial support, has been dispatched to Iran.

The purpose of the visit is to meet and consult with officials and economic actors in Qazvin and Gilan provinces, as well as to tour the special economic zones and ports of Anzali and Astara.

Ulyanovsk province is a key industrial and agricultural region within the Russian Federation. It serves as a central point for the Volga-Caspian Sea-Persian Gulf transit-logistics project, specifically the Ulyanovsk-Astara railway and the Ulyanovsk-Caspian Sea maritime route. This initiative falls within the framework of the North-South corridor and is expected to reduce transit times, diversify export routes, and significantly boost regional economic activity for Iran.
