Somalia Faces Diphtheria Outbreak, 50 Children Dead

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Ministry of Health in Somalia has issued a warning about a diphtheria outbreak severely impacting children between the ages of 5 and 15, posing a significant threat to public health.
A vaccination campaign is scheduled to commence on December 15 in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The campaign will prioritize hospitals, schools, and medical centers to administer the vaccines.
The Ministry of Health is urging parents to ensure their children receive vaccinations at local health centers to combat the spread of the disease.
Diphtheria, caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheriae, primarily affects the mouth, eyes, and nose, with an incubation period ranging from two to six days.
