Iraq Rejects Trump Envoy’s Criticism of Country’s Internal Affairs

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein voiced strong objections to recent remarks made by Tom Barrack, President Trump’s envoy to Syria, regarding Iraq’s domestic situation during a meeting in Doha.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has criticized statements made by President Trump’s envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, regarding Iraq’s internal affairs.

During a meeting in Doha, Hussein conveyed his government’s astonishment at Barrack’s recent commentary on the domestic situation in Iraq. According to a statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Hussein emphasized that Barrack’s positions required further clarification to accurately reflect the political developments and internal stability of Iraq.

Hussein stressed the importance of respecting the will of the Iraqi people, highlighting that democracy and a federal system are enshrined in the country’s constitution.

Barrack responded by claiming that the U.S. government views Iraq’s experience with respect and that his comments reflected America’s own experiences in the country. He had previously stated that the U.S. involvement in Iraq was a failed experiment that should not be repeated, citing the deaths of hundreds of thousands and the eventual withdrawal of U.S. forces. He also suggested that the imposition of a federal model, with a central government in Baghdad and a Kurdish regional government in the oil-rich region, contributed to a divisive environment akin to the former Yugoslavia. Barrack noted that the U.S. spent three trillion dollars and endured two decades in a disastrous historical episode with no tangible gains.
