Sudan Conflict: Hundreds of Children Flee Violence in Al-Fashir

At least 400 children have arrived in Touila, Sudan, after escaping violence in Al-Fashir, facing severe physical and psychological distress. International officials condemn the actions of militias and call for immediate intervention to protect civilians.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, at least 400 children have fled violence in the Sudanese city of Al-Fashir and arrived in Touila.

The children, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council, arrived in Touila after days of walking without their parents, suffering from physical problems, dehydration, and psychological shock. Concerns are rising about the risk of abduction, trafficking, and forced recruitment of these children by armed groups.

Al-Fashir fell to Rapid Support Forces on October 26 after an 18-month siege. Over 100,000 people have fled the city since its occupation by the militias. Many families have been separated or are unaware of the fate of their relatives.

Touila, lacking sufficient resources to accommodate the displaced, faces a daily influx of approximately 200 children. Local teachers and aid workers report that some children are unable to speak due to psychological shock and suffer from night terrors.

International officials, including Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, have condemned the actions of militias in Al-Fashir and called for immediate intervention to protect civilians and stop human rights violations in the region. The Darfur crisis has again shown that children are the main victims of war and instability in Sudan.
